About us

A small brokerage that answers its own phone.

Harbourline started in a one-room office on Darling Street in 2014, on the belief that most people don't want to be sold a loan — they want someone to explain the numbers and then do the paperwork properly.

Twelve years, one way of working.

Before Harbourline, our founder spent nine years inside lenders — first in credit assessment, then in branch lending. That's a useful education. You learn quickly that a “no” is rarely about the person; it's usually about how the file was put together, or about a policy quirk at one particular lender that a different one doesn't share.

So the brokerage was built around that insight. We assess you the way a credit officer would before anything is lodged, we tell you which lenders would decline you and why, and we only put a file in front of a lender when we're confident it will hold up. Clients tend to notice the difference at the pointy end, when a valuation comes in low or a settlement date moves and someone actually picks up the phone.

We're deliberately small. Everyone here carries a manageable number of files, which is why you deal with the same broker from the first conversation through to settlement — and why we're still around at the annual review a year later.

What we hold to

Four things we don't bend on.

01

Show the working

Every recommendation comes with the comparison behind it, in writing, including the options we ruled out.

02

No borrowing to the limit

The maximum a lender will give you is not a target. We'll say so if a number looks uncomfortable.

03

Independent, genuinely

No bank owns us, no lender sets us volume targets, and we'll disclose how we're paid whenever you ask.

04

Stay after settlement

We review your rate each year and tell you when it has drifted, even if the fix earns us nothing.

Where we work

Balmain office, Sydney-wide clients.

Most first meetings happen over the phone or a video call, whenever suits — including after hours if that's the only window you have. When you'd rather sit down with someone, the office is on Darling Street with parking behind the building.

We work with clients right across greater Sydney and interstate. The paperwork is digital, the conversations are real, and nothing requires you to take a day off.

Bring the messy income, the old debt, the auction on Saturday. That's the interesting part of the job.
